MLI - Maher Language Institute

While a much more detailed syllabus will be provided before the beginning of the session with course materials and clearly delineated course objectives and outcomes, the following gives a brief idea about the overall course running and structure.

The four-week Summer Language Institute (SLI) begins on June 31 and ends on July 25 as shown in the following calendar:

Daily contact hours are approximately six in total: three in the morning session and three in the afternoon as indicated below:

The morning session is reserved for various class and lab activities.

The afternoon session is reserved for cultural arts activities.

The two hour break allows participants to have lunch and move to the location of the activity as planned by the instructor.

Weekly trips take place on Saturdays and are 4 in total: 2 outside Paris, on the 5th and 19th, and 2 within Paris the 12th and the 26th.

Sundays are off.

The activities will include the following:


	Students will be involved with professional instructors and will learn a number of songs which will enrich not only their vocabulary but also their diction and fluency.


	Appealing and exciting stories will be narrated by professional story tellers. Learners will step by step learn the art of narration in the target language.


	You will be involved in acting out a number of plays. You will enhance your cultural and historical understanding in the target language.


	You will be involved in the preparation of a number of mini-speeches and interviews after which you will be trained how to air them. MLI’s Cameras will videotape the rehearsals and the broadcasts.


	You will be involved in the making of a mini-movie. With a role to play and a script to understand, practice, and act out, you will not only learn how scenes are shot and edited, but will also experience a feel of the target language.
