MLI is an educational establishment which offers programs of highly academic standards with a creative and dynamic learner empowering vision. As such, it provides a space where the most talented teachers meet enthusiastic language learners from all over the world.
By bringing together learners of commonly used languages such as French, English and Arabic, MLI hopes to bridge the existing cultural gaps fostering therefore healthy intercultural communication, a very much needed dialogue in the globalized world in which we live.
MLI aims to bond language and culture not through reading relevant texts followed by short discussions as practiced in most language programs, but through direct involvement in culturally based arts activities. As such MLI is not only putting together what belongs to each other, namely language and culture, it is also making a step forward towards bridging the current gap between two human experiences in artistic expression and language learning.
Thus, MLI honors creativity, emotions, and intuitions by embedding them into language teaching and learning. Indeed, such deep human forms of expression are continuously vehicled through language. Learning language through such profound expressions constitutes the hallmark of MLI.
MLI is therefore committed to bringing arts back into language teaching and language learning. Accordingly, each language program is scheduled to include a number of arts activities such as singing, story telling, broadcasting, acting and film making, not as extra curricular activities, rather as a major component of the course curriculum.
MLI’s teaching and learning approach is research based. Learning language through the arts is beyond any doubt one of the most effective ways of learning a foreign language. Last year’s international conference held in one of the Parisian universities entitledd ‘Creativity, aesthetic experience and imagination: teaching/learning in the field of language and culture and artistic practices’ (http://langues.creteil.iufm.fr/colloque/accueil.htm), for instance, is just one example which illustrates the sound basis and the world-wide interest in this learning methodology.
Finally, MLI is honored to provide its prospective participants, be they instructors or students, with conveniently located academics in North America, Europe, the Middle East and North Africa should there be a need for a nearby contact.
